This artwork was painted with a dot by dot technique using hot wax. This piece was made in April 2020 when the COVID-19 first started to really affect our lives. For me, an introvert, the stay at home order gave me more time to be at peace and engulf myself in my artwork. My thought when I started this piece was we are missing pieces in our busy lives and slowing down may not be as bad as everyone thinks. Time to spend with family (my teenage boys and husband), finding things about ourselves we never had time to find, seeing the pieces of our world we truly cannot live without and the pieces we realized we can live without. I'm a person who lives my life that, everything in this crazy life happens for a reason, the good, the bad and even the ugly. These different pieces of life make us who we are today.'

'Magnolia Fruit', acrylic by Vivian Ripley ($325) ⎼⎼ 'Magnolia Fruit is an acrylic painting on Yupo, a synthetic 100% waterproof paper which is 'tree-free'. Because the paint sits on the paper rather than being absorbed at all, (as is characteristic of traditional watercolor paper), it's best to use less water and more pigment. A roller was used and brushwork completed the image. I wanted a unique shape to fit a strong design.'

'Watermelon on the Deck II', oil paint on gallery wrapped canvas by Mary Ann Rosenthal ($240) ⎼⎼ 'Originally painted and exhibited for the Plein Air on the Porch Exhibit, June 2020. After studying and living with this painting, I realized that the color of the house (brown) was simply not enhancing the still life. So I changed it to this lovely shade of green. Hence the name of the artwork has changed to 'Watermelon on the Deck II.' The social isolation helped me slow down and appreciate the tastes and colors of spring.'
