Zen Garden #1
Fiber – felt (14.5 x 24)
“In this quiet Stay-At-Home time it was a reflective time for me – time to look inside myself and appreciate all that I have, not what I’m missing. The grounding of the stone images and the feeling of the wool was comforting to me in an uncomfortable time.
I’ve always been fascinated by the colors, textures, shapes and mystical qualities of stones.
Maybe that’s what inspired me to create the series “The Lore of Stones” in felt.
Remembering some things and researching more, I decided to incorporate some of the lore into this series of wall pieces. The organic quality of the felt backgrounds with lots of texture seemed like great place to start.
These pieces are all mounted on hard insulation foam with adhesive tabs so they can be easily hung horizontal, vertical, alone or in a group. They have insulating and sound proofing qualities. Wool is insulating, moisture absorbing and hard wearing. On top of all this, nature has been so brilliant that it has greased each fiber of the wool with lanolin as it grows out of the follicle. The lanolin protects the fiber against water, dirt and odors.”

“Sea Ride is a compilation of individually handmade tiles, glass tiles, layers and texture. These contrasts of composition, smoothness woven with varying textures, are meant to convey the habitat of our sea horse friends.”
Clay (8 x 13)
“This fun guy started as a wheel thrown pot and was shaped from there.”
Mixed media (24 x 30)
“Acrylic and foam sheets on canvas. This was my first time I created tactile on large canvas.”
Mixed media (20 x 20)
“Acrylic and play dough.”
Mixed media (16 x 20)
“Foam sheets (no painting) it is very simple and tactile.”
Clay (9 x 3)
“Believe is a rounded pot that is smooth from its bottom to the flat surface. The flat area is roughly textured and as your hands move up there are 3 steps, each providing a different texture. The steps lead to a square opening. The rough areas depict difficulties in our lives, until we reach the smooth top in which we all “Believe” we will reach one day.”
Earth, Wind & Fire
“Red clay body with white clay ribbon curving up to the white clay neck. The pot provides texture, as well as a smooth, burnished, body. The entire piece was pit fired to achieve a smoky look that allows the red and white clays to peek through.”
