Creating Tactile Art

Workshop with Jenny Keyser

Wednesdays: September 11, 18 & 25 | 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

at the St. Augustine Art Association

Unleash your creativity in this three-week class, where art isn’t just seen — but felt!

Led by local artist Jenny Keyser, this course will introduce innovative techniques to create artwork that not only stimulates the eyes, but delights the fingertips. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or a complete beginner, you will experiment with materials through mixed media, and break free from the traditional visual constraints of art. Discover how to add dimension to your work that can make it more accessible to viewers, as well as engaging for the visually impaired and blind. Through explorations of texture, shape and form, you’ll learn how to craft your very own multi-sensory masterpiece — just in time for October’s Tactile Art Show!

About the Instructor

Jenny Keyser is a multi-disciplinary artist. She has presented her work and research at both the Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association Conference and the Art in Society Conference at UCLA. Her art has been shown internationally in galleries and museums. Recent shows include Works on Paper at Long Beach Island Foundation for the Arts and Sciences as juried by Esther Adler, curator at MOMA, and Loss, Redemption and Grace at EBD4 in Atlanta. She has participated in the Alchemy residency in Canada and the Art and Soul International residency in New Mexico. In addition, Keyser’s work in accessories and wearable art was sold nationally at Barney’s New York, and has been included in publications like Lark Books’ 1,000 Beads, InStyle Magazine and Women’s Wear Daily.

For years now, Jenny has been teaching multi-disciplinary art to all ages, both online and through the local area. She encourages her stuents to take the time to focus on the details, think about the emotional reaction that a piece incites, and consider how others may perceive the work. A selection of Jenny’s own works of art are on display now at the PAStA Fine Art Gallery and the St. Augustine Art Association.
