History of Plein Air in St. Augustine
April 29 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
$30
Plein air, translated to English as outdoors, painting has been a common practice in St. Augustine, FL. for years. In fact, many of the early members of the St. Augustine Art Association were plein air painters. In the 1940s, artist Anthony Thieme, who put St. Augustine on the map for collectors in New York City with his vibrant plein air paintings of St. Augustine, dubbed the town, the “first choice of all Florida for artists.”
Present-day artist and history buff Paula Pasucci will give a fun and insightful presentation on St. Augustine’s Art History and the role plein air painting played in bringing artists and collectors to St. Augustine throughout the past century. The presentation will highlight notable artists and influencers whose creative endeavors helped mold the St. Augustine Art Association and drive the organization to continue its mission of promoting the arts for nearly a century.
Following the presentation will be a light lunch and then a plein air field demo.
