Judge's Statement -
I want to thank STAAA for inviting me to jury their “miniatures” exhibition. The submissions gave me an abundance of beautiful works for me to view. The other 180 strong works made choosing the winners a difficult task. I looked to create a balance in quality, craftsmanship, materials, and process. If I chose not to include your work, please do not be discouraged as there were so many excellent works to consider.
When picking work, I asked of each piece, “how successfully does this work of art address the concepts of use of materials, craftsmanship, and overall quality?” The art that was selected illustrated beauty and a concern to explore materials with technique at the forefront.
I hope the viewers enjoy the show as much as I enjoyed looking at each work while selecting the exhibition. I was moved by the intimacy of some of the work, smiled at the beauty of some of the pieces, and intellectually challenged by several pieces.
