Colored pencil by Anna Richardson
(17in x 24in)
"This piece means so much to me. As a person of color, I grew up wondering why the average Barbie doll didn't look like me. As I grew older, I learned to accept and love myself and my culture. I wanted to express this hardship through my art. I did that by using the juxtaposition of a person of color with Barbie dolls to serve as a visual critique of Eurocentric beauty standards and the impact it can cause on self-perception."
