"Martin Luther King undertook challenging civil rights work in St. Augustine. One of the homes and churches which supported and harbored him during this difficult time was St. Cyprian's Church in Lincolnville in St. Augustine. I undertook many sketches of this well known church before selecting a perspective. The churches "spire" is encircled in darkness lit by the light of the moon and the extra light I gave to the colors of the sky to reveal the bell, whose pealing would have called to to the supporters of Dr. King to gather around. Prismacolor is suited to the small size of the image. At one time I had thoughts of making a series of cards on civil rights sources of refuge in Lincolnville, which is one reason I worked small." Artwork purchased online may be picked up at the St. Augustine Art Association (22 Marine Street) on or after April 2nd during regular gallery hours (Tuesday through Sunday, 12:00 - 4:00pm) or shipped to the buyer (ALL SHIPPING COSTS TO BE PAID BY THE BUYER). -
