"After the gallery exhibition opening, and after a late dinner, and after a cleansing rain, we wandered the deserted streets, and the Ancient City whispered her secrets… Devoid of tourists and traffic, I asked her what defined her; history or the business of history, driven by nostalgia? I was reminded of the delightful movie “Midnight in Paris” that explores the longing for the “golden ages” of historical cities. The protagonist, Gil, is transported to Roaring Twenties Paris by hitching a ride with party-goers in a vintage car not unlike this 1929 Ford Model A, one of a collection owned by Casa Monica, pictured in front of the Lightner Museum, formerly the glamorous Gilded Age Hotel Alcazar. There he meets Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald, Cole Porter, Ernest Hemingway, Gertrude Stein, Pablo Picasso, and Salvador Dali. The City of St. Augustine website lists 14 “Periods of History in St Augustine” – ending with “1941-1945: World War II”, (79 years ago, hmm…). Ambling through her streets even in daylight, your mind may time-skip, but contemporary St. Augustine offers tours and experiences for all Ages/ages (lol) and more, for a price. Where will No$talgia transport you? This striking photograph is presented in a beautiful double mat and black gallery frame to fit any décor."
