Mixed media & acrylic by Eric Rakov

"I was inspired to create this piece immediately after moving my mother into a Memory Care facility due to her cognitive decline from dementia. There are 3 elements to this work 1) a blurred family snapshot from early years of a marriage that would eventually dissolve 2) questions and phrases that my mother repeats constantly that dominate all conversations 3) a rendering of her portrait which she reluctantly posed for as a young girl. My mom's strongest memories are those of when she was a young girl, while everything else seems to be fragmented or lost. The girl looks on at what's unfolding and though she's cooperating, she is not happy and she can't wait to get out of there."
