Castillo de San Marcos

$1,600.00

Watercolor by Lori Sweet
(30in. x 24in.)

Created in plein air fashion, inspired by challenge of drawing a panorama view of historical “Castillo de San Marcos,” being the oldest masonry fort in the United States. It is along the shoreline of Matanzas River. This National Monument is part of the ancient city of Old St. Augustine, Florida. The fort was built by the Spaniards in the late 17th century to protect and defend Spain’s claims in the New World. The Castillo de San Marcos English translation means. “St. Mark’s Castle”.
