“This abstract oil on canvas was inspired by Galileo’s famous six watercolors of the phases of the moon painted in 1609. It is hard to know what Galileo would have thought possible when contemplating or dreaming of the future of space exploration. In this piece, Galileo’s moon forms were combined and layered with shapes inspired by the new James Webb Space telescope and contemporary satellites. Colors were chosen and placed to give a sense of continued movement up and forward and to suggest the paths that we are now following and the doors that we have yet to walk through.“
