  • Wishful Thinking

Watercolor by Janice Rippon (16 in. x 20 in.)
"Capturing what I see in watercolor prolongs the best moments of life. My subject matter changes according to what is in my life or on my mind at any given time. This watercolor captures a moment of intrigue when a playful dog spots the goldfish in a pond for the first time. Leaning over the stone edge of the pond to get a better view as the fish tease and dart around underwater. His snout touches his own reflection rather than catching the fish. The pond was painted on top of an underpainting of color. The stone edge uses white space to create the boundary between the dog and his wishful intentions." Artwork purchased online may be picked up at the St. Augustine Art Association (22 Marine Street) on or after September 30 during regular gallery hours (Tuesday through Sunday, 12:00 - 4:00pm) or shipped to the buyer (ALL SHIPPING COSTS TO BE PAID BY THE BUYER).

  • Of One Mind

Acrylic by Deborah Lightfield (24 in. x 30 in.)
"Art reflects surroundings, beliefs, and experiences. In this piece, I reflected on my experience growing up with horses. My artistic intention is to interpret subjects while using a variety of expressive, interesting, and bold colors and textures. I enjoy the challenges of making unifying compositions, working with different styles or experimenting with different mediums. Art is a multilayered experience with many perspectives. Hopefully, my visual interpretations will relate to the viewer with the joy I had in creating each piece of artwork. "Of One Mind" was a fun piece to work on because the piece emerged on its own. At first, I was playing with abstracted horses, lines, and color. Then I felt it needed more realism but without more color, so I stayed with the monochromatic black and white. The face and body flowed nicely but needed more on the opposite side and the second body laid in perfectly with the same head. Thus, the horse with two bodies was formed and the title "Of One Mind" seemed perfect. The abstracted horse at the bottom created contrast and balance, so he stayed. Which body was painted first? Isn't if fun to look at something from a different perspective? Plus, the viewer can ponder as to the significance or symbolism "Of One Mind"." Oil & Cold Wax by Janet Tyrrell (30 in. x 20 in.)
"As I put brush to canvas I enjoy his many arrangements either as a solo cellist or 2Cello's. At times I would find myself closing my eyes as my body rhythmically swayed with music. I just had to create his portrait, "Frisson" as he appeared in concert."
